swedish massage

This treatment combines a variety of techniques including compression, gliding and stretching that improves circulation and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management. Swedish massage can be soothing or invigorating, offering a pressure ranging from light to deep. This style of massage is suitable for maintaining a healthy strong musculoskeletal system as it eases tension and improves vital nutrition to the tissues.

Deep tissue MASSAGE

This treatment Involves warming the skin and superficial soft tissue prior to the therapist using greater pressure to access the deeper connective tissue underneath. Neuromuscular massage techniques are used to detect muscle tissue that has become taut and or strained. Muscle tension as a result of poor or repetitive posture warrants deep tissue techniques. Treatment for low back and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, sciatica, headaches and neck pain are most commonly treated with deep tissue techniques. A series of treatments may be needed to allow the surface tissue to relax so that the therapist can address the underlying issues.

sports MASSAGE

We work closely together with our sports medicine doctor and physiotherapists located in the medical clinic to help you recover from any injuries you’ve sustained. Sports massage can be appropriate pre-event, inter-event, post-event, for rehabilitation and maintenance. A regular massage therapy maintenance plan can also prevent injuries from occurring in the first place.  Sports massage helps athletes increase mobility, range of motion, oxygen supply, blood flow, and helps maintain higher performance. Sports massage helps to flush the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic waste allowing you to perform at your best. Treatments are tailored to any sport and all levels of athletes.

Myofascial release

Fascia is densely interlaced and very strong connective tissue that envelops the muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones and can, like other parts of the body, misalign over time. Myofascial release therapy applies a gentle, sustained pressure to guide the fascia back into its regular position, restoring its mobility. This technique is very helpful in restoring strength, flexibility and posture.

PREGNANCY and Postpartum MASSAGE

Pregnancy massage is offered to prenatal or postnatal mothers. It helps relieve low back pain, muscle spasms and cramps. In addition, it also reduces swelling and discomfort accompanying pregnancy and helps to improve sleep. Moms-to-be can relax while positioned side-lying or on a pregnancy pillow.

Massage is also beneficial for babies and children.  It has been shown to enhance growth in premature babies in the hospital, calm aggressive adolescents and help kids with Attention Deficit Disorder.

temporomandibular (TMJ) MASSAGE

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge joint where the jaw connects into the temporal bone. Many people suffer from pain, headaches, decreased range of motion, poor sleep, clenching, teeth grinding, clicking or popping of the jaw. This treatment will help relax the muscles surrounding the face, scalp and neck to help increase range of motion and decrease pain in the jaw. Intra-oral work may be suggested as well.

Mental Health

The benefits of massage therapy extend beyond the remediation of physical aches, and pains. Studies consistently show that it is also an excellent tool in treating anxiety and depression.  People experiencing depression have noticed many positive benefits from massage therapy including a reduction in symptoms.  As part of the Richmond Oaks Medical Center team we work closely with other professionals to treat patients suffering from mental health symptoms.
